Is There Any Yoga Posture To Recover From Common Headaches?

Suffering from headaches? Looking out for simple solutions to relieve these? Well, worry not! This article is meant for you.

At Yoga Hut in Borivali, we are approached by many individuals asking about postures that provide easy relief from common headaches. We have decided to cover all points relating to headaches in this article in detail.

Let us understand the following points one by one.

We are often asked if headaches are common in adults. Let us find out more.

[ps2id id=’ahcia?’ target=”/]Are headaches common in adults?

Never consider yourself alone when your head is throbbing. Headaches are very common around the globe.

Even common headaches affect our concentration and make us go absent from work. Headaches upset us and take a toll on our social and family life.

A common headache can cause work stress but if prolonged may lead to anxiety or even depression in severe cases.

Many of our students who are consistent with yoga group sessions feel happy, fresh, healthy, and energetic.

[ps2id id=’toh’ target=”/]Types of headaches

There is more than one type of headache. Yes, that’s right! Any guesses on the number of headaches prevalent? The answer is 150 types of headaches. Scary, isn’t it? They can be broadly categorized under two categories, namely,

  • [ps2id id=’ph’ target=”/]Primary headaches

Primary headaches are those that do not arise due to a medical condition. These include cluster headaches, migraine, tension headaches, and new daily persistent headaches (NDPH).

  • [ps2id id=’sh’ target=”/]Secondary headaches

Secondary headaches are those that are related to medical conditions and include head injury, disease of blood vessels in the brain, infection, tumor, trauma, sinus congestion, infection, medication overuse, high blood pressure or hypertension, etc.

We are always responsible for conscious decisions. We must take the right steps at the right time. One of the preventive measures to curb headaches is to find the right morning yoga group session.

[ps2id id=’ihh?’ target=”/]Is headache hereditary?

At Yoga Hut, we are often asked, if the headache is hereditary. Here is your answer. Headaches, at times, seem to tend to run in families, especially migraines. It has been observed that children who have migraines usually have at least one parent who has been suffering it for a long time.

Kids whose parents have migraines are up to four times more likely to develop them fast.

  • At times, some habits and environmental factors trigger headaches. These include:
  • Exposure to second-hand smoke
  • Strong odors from perfumes
  • Strong odors from household chemicals
  • Exposure to allergens
  • Excessive consumption of foods or ingredients like caffeine, alcohol, fermented foods, chocolate, or cheese.

After the pandemic of Novel Coronavirus, people have grown a new love for self-love and self-care. Yoga Group sessions have been an obvious choice for many individuals. Those who can’t join yoga group sessions offline, now have the option of Virtual Yoga Group Session.

If you wish to find relief from the problem of common headaches, here are some of the common poses and asanas, that you must learn.

At Yoga Hut, we advise everyone to incorporate Yoga into their day-to-day lives instead of waiting for any diseases to creep in.

If your headache issues persist, we would recommend you consult your healthcare professional. Yoga asanas help you improve your health to a certain extent; however, it must be understood that they are not replacements for Doctors’ prescriptions.

Let us now try to see some of the asanas that may help you relieve the common headache. In the beginning, these asanas may not be easy to do however, gradually with consistent practice in yoga group sessions coupled with the guidance from the trained professional trainers of Yoga Hut, anyone can master them.

  • [ps2id id=’ff:’ target=”/]Forward fold:

In this Yoga Asana, you need to stand tall with your feet hip-width apart. Then bend at the hips to extend the crown of your head straight down towards the floor, however, you need to do this at a steady pace when you do. You need to soften your knees to increase the stretch while keeping your heels flat on the mat. Focus your eyes on one point towards the back edge of your mat to keep the concentration. Let your hands rest on the mat or a block. You can also choose to hold your elbows. Once you do this, stay here for at least 7-9 breaths.

  • [ps2id id=’cp:’ target=”/]Child’s pose:

Get onto your hands and knees and keep your feet together, then widen your knees to the sides of your body. Thereafter, reach your arms forward on the mat and simultaneously rest your forehead on the mat further extending your hips to the mat behind you. Keep the back of your neck long. Let your shoulders and upper back be relaxed. Stay in this position for 8-10 breaths.

  • [ps2id id=’lutw:’ target=”/]Legs up the wall:

Lie on your back and let your buttocks be against the wall. Extend your legs up against the side of the wall. Let your upper body relax with your arms next to your torso. Let your palms face up and stay in this position for at least 8-10 breaths.

  • [ps2id id=’tst:’ target=”/]The spinal twist:

Lie on your back on a mat and draw your knees slowly to your chest. After this, proceed to lower your legs to one side. As you keep your hips stacked, one side over the other, proceed to stretch your arms straight out to the sides of the mat with your palms facing up. Cast your ceiling or over to the hand opposite your knees. Stay in this position for six breaths. Once done on one side, proceed to repeat on the other side.

  • [ps2id id=’tssacs:’ target=”/]The spinal shoulder and chest stretch:

Begin with placing a bolster on a rolled-up towel on the mat and lie down with your face up. This will support the length of your spine. Open your arms out to the sides of your body to form a ‘T’ shaped with your palms facing up by letting your hands and shoulders drop towards the floor. Do try to stay in this position for at least 8-10 breaths.
